Weekly Roundup
June 18, 2026
Check out this week's roundup of the good things going on at GDG! We have a scholarship reflection, plus Benjamin Project stories this week that feature floral bouquets to brighten people's days in Nebraska, a group making blankets for Humane Colorado, and a project in Nevada supporting kids and their families during their hospital stays.
The Benjamin Project
Stella - Nebraska
For my Benjamin Project, I wanted to put smiles on people's faces and show them how much they are appreciated! I feel like this world just needs more kindness in it. We wanted to go to places that we think don't get a lot of gifts. We did this the day before Mother's Day, so we got a lot of compliments. First, I went to Trader Joe's to see their fresh flowers and got 6 of their medium sized bouquets and 8 small sized bouquets. Me and my partner went to many places and gave out these flowers and hand-made cards with heartfelt messages and jokes to strangers. First we visited Sun Ridge Village, which is a retirement home and gave the secretary lots of cards to give out! Then we visited #78 Omaha Fire Station and gave one of the big bouquets to firefighters. We also went to Saddlebrook library and recreation area to give 4 small bouquets to the workers and many cards for the kids. We went to Parsons house, which is a home for people with Parkinson's and showed them our love. Finally we gave the rest to my elderly neighbors.
The Benjamin Project
Lydia - Colorado
Through the Benjamin Project, my group made blankets for shelter dogs, specifically Humane Colorado. We made it a hands on, interactive project to keep students engaged while still making an impact. Our advanced learning teacher did a wonderful job running everything.
The Benjamin Project
Gianna - Nevada
We used our Benjamin Project to support the Once Upon A Room Project. With the money we bought a little girl, her parents, and older brother things to make their hospital experience more enjoyable. We got to meet and talk to her and her mom. Seeing that the little girl was so young in the hospital at only 9 months was heart breaking, but I'm glad we were able to help her and her family.
Scholarship Reflection
Frances - Montana
My trip to Washington DC was very memorable and pivotal to my knowledge of history and our country. Some of my favorite memories were going to the Library of Congress and Mount Vernon because they both were very beautiful in separate ways. The Library of Congress had beautiful architecture and art. There was so much expression displayed. Mount Vernon had stunning views of blooming flowers and greenery. Thank you for the scholarship that has made it possible for me to attend this trip as it was a once in a lifetime experience.
