Zeneida Altamirano Family

Home Project #2: Zeneida Altamirano Family

Location: Rio Frio, Finca Uno

Description:  Zeneida is a single mother of three children.  Her husband left her years ago and they have been moved from house to house since then.  She currently rents the home they are in now.  The house doesn’t have plumbing, running water, and electricity.  The children must walk at least two miles to get to the bus, and then it takes almost another hour to get to school.  Zeneida works at a local sugar cane processing plant and makes just under $2 a day.  She has four beautiful kids: Ingrid 14 years old, Josue 11 years old, and Magaly who is 8.  The home floor is muddy, and there are no doors or windows to lock so her valuables are accessible to any thief in the area.  She believes that a new home will not only provide security for her family, but also improve her children’s school-work and future.

Update: As of January 2015, Zeneida and her beautiful family have moved into their new home! Many thanks to everyone involved, especially the student group from Texas. See before and after pictures below!
