Home Project #8: Daisy Altamino Family
Daisy and her three daughters, Kimberly (11 years old), Sofia (6 years old), and Violet (2 years old) live in Rio Frio, Costa Rica. 6 months ago, her husband forced she and her daughters out of their home, basically leaving them to fend for themselves. Initially she was planning to live in a place with no water or electricity, but her sister offered them a temporary shelter in her backyard. This home does not have adequate plumbing, running water or electricity, but she is able to access those essentials at her sister's home nearby.
Global Doing Good has purchased land so that not only will Daisy and her family have their own home, but access to essential services. Daisy, like many of the rural families in Costa Rica, works only two days a week and lives off less than $300 a month, which is just barely enough to support her family. With a safe and basic home, Daisy feels her daughters will perform better in school, and those few possessions she does have will remain safe from intruders. |
